Did you know that childbirth is the most common reason for a hospital visit in British Columbia (BC)? It accounts for 1 in 10 hospital visits. We want to make sure that pregnant individuals and their newborns receive the best care possible.
We have formed a partnership between university researchers, maternity healthcare providers, and patient partners (patients who have had a baby in BC) to provide insight into the optimal use of Caesarean delivery. Specifically, we would like to understand the short- and long- term costs of Caesarean and Vaginal delivery to the healthcare system in BC.
We would like to learn from our patient partners about their experiences giving birth, their post-partum period, and if/how mode of delivery has affected subsequent pregnancies or any aspect of their physical and mental wellbeing.
Our patient partners are advisors on the project, and help us refine our research question and analysis. The commitment entails meetings 2-4 times per year and email communication every few months. We provide flexibility for time & dates for meetings. No previous research experience is needed.
